About Melissa Rivera Simpson
Melissa is a California born Latina theater producer, educator, and performer. Her career has given her the opportunity to travel all over the country and has even been featured in events in Mexico. Although she is best known for her work in musical theatre, she is also experienced in opera, straight plays, recitals, and concert style shows. Her primary focus is producing and managing. She is experienced in the day-to-day responsibilities and challenges of sustaining and supporting an organization no matter the size due to her involvement with both non-profit organizations and a multimillion-dollar theater company. She proved her vocal flexibility when she won 1st place in the Mid-Atlantic Region National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Young Artist competition in 2010. She went on to play roles from Mimi in Rent to Belinda in Dido and Aeneas. Melissa is also a fervent theatre educator. She has taught in various capacities such as theatre workshops and masterclasses in audition techniques, theatre fundamentals, and performance coaching for over 15 years. Growth and development has always been important to her, therefore she actively participates in continuing education. She regularly attends workshops and webinars on Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI). She participated in the LAByrinth Theater Company’s intensive ensemble in New York where she studied with Philip Seymour Hoffman and Stephen Adly Guirgis (among others), and participated in a two month in-depth teacher training course with Sheri Sanders, the creator of Rock the Audition.
