I lead the research team in the Brookdale Department of Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. I am a health services researcher with expertise in the use of large, national, survey and administrative databases. My research focuses on patterns of hospice use, transitions in care at the end of life, and the financial incentives inherent in Medicare's payment structures and policies. I am particularly interested in the impact of for-profit and private equity ownership of healthcare providers on quality and access to care. I lead the Population Research and Methods Core for Mount Sinai’s Claude D. Pepper Older American Independence Center and the National Palliative Care Research Center’s junior faculty research program.
