About Melissa Bendixsen
I am a full-time mom who has been living abroad in Sweden and most recently Scotland with my husband and three young children for the past 4 years. I have developed a deep understanding of parental input, family-directed goals and therapy, and counseling within my therapeutic approach due to personal experience. My 4 year-old daughter has childhood apraxia of speech and my 2 year-old son was born with Down Syndrome in early 2020 on the cusp of the Covid-19 outbreak. While I took a break from direct clinical services to attend to family needs, I continued to maintain my skills as a Speech-Language Pathologist through treatment with my own children, consultations with friends, advocacy efforts in the communities we have lived, education on child development and expected milestones, and through continuing education courses. My passion in the field is literacy-based instruction, play-based therapy, treatment of /R/, apraxia, and orofacial-myofunctional disorders. I love reading to my children, cooking, hiking, and exploring local museums and historical churches with my family.
Listed skills include Research, Higher Education, Treatment, Teaching, and 20 others.
