I am in my final year at Western Washington University (WWU), pursuing a degree in Environmental Studies with a focus on policy, politics, and governance. In addition to my major, I am particularly passionate about climate issues and climate justice and have a minor in Climate Change and am taking part in a Climate Leadership Certificate. Currently, I serve as an ambassador for the Sustainability, Equity, and Justice Fund grant program housed within the Sustainability Engagement Institute at WWU. In my position as ambassador, I engage with students, faculty, and staff in implementing initiatives for a more sustainable campus and community as well as work in outreach for the institute. As a first-gen Mexican American, my lived experiences have shaped my perspective on the intersection of environmental issues and social justice. My lived experiences coupled with my academic and professional background have made me passionate about empowering marginalized voices and building strong resilient communities in the face of climate change through environmental policy and community engagement. I am eager to utilize my academic background, positionality, and professional experience in sustainability and systems change to foster equity in community engagement and resiliency planning.
