I joined the then Trade Practices Commission as a Graduate, and was fortunate enough to be placed in the Head Office in Canberra. The graduate program involved periodical rotations through various departments within the Commission - being Mergers, Legal Unit and Utilities & Deregulating Industries (working on the gas industry).My work as a graduate included assessing and analysing submissions made to the ACCC by various external parties, legal research, conducting market enquiries, drafting and presenting staff papers before the Commission, writing papers on legal issues for publication in the staff newsletter, liaising with various Government and private agencies.At conclusion of the Graduate program, I joined the then ACCC's Sydney office as an Investigator. My role involved enforcing the Trade Practices Act, conducting complex investigations into alleged breaches, answering client enquiries regarding the operation of the TPA, conducting interviews of corporations and consumers, drafting Court documents, preparing affidavits, and managing Federal Court group proceedings matter.I was subsequently admitted as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court, at which point I decided to move into private practice.
