  • St. Jude Children'S Research Hospital
    Post Doctoral Research Associate
St. Jude Children'S Research Hospital Jan 2003 - Nov 2008
    Memphis, Tn, Us
During my time at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, my research focused mainly on the loss of the Pten gene from murine brain cells and how that is linked to glioblastoma tumors. While deleting Pten from astrocytes, oligodendrocytes and neurons did not alone result in tumor formation, we were the first lab to discover a link to loss of Pten and ultra structural changes in the cells of the brain. These cellular changes could be linked to manifestations such as autism like characteristics seen in humans with Pten deficiencies. This work was featured in the January, 24 2008 Neuroscience journal along with a cover feature. I also studied the different genetic alterations in pediatric glioblastomas compared with adult tumors.
  • Medical University Of South Carolina
    Student
Medical University Of South Carolina Aug 1996 - Dec 2003
    Charleston, Sc, Us
As a graduate student, I studied the role of CaSm in prostate cancer using in vitro cellular studies and a few mouse flank tumor models. Over expression of CaSm leads to cellular transformation in an NIH3T3 Cell assay while reduction of CaSm expression by anti-sense CaSm via a plasmid or adenovirus, reduces the cellular transformation of the gene.
