An environmental consultant to Canada’s largest wine company, Melissa has been a sustainability leader for 15+ years. After a mining career switch in 1999, she recovered from cancer, completed a Masters of Environmental Management (UNSW) and moved to Canada.Living in Niagara, Ontario for 8+ years, she was involved in a few “firsts” – delivering the first local government sustainability plan, opening the first environmental film festival in the province and being the first recipient of a council-awarded “Green Family” contest. She has delivered addresses about sustainable behavior change to the Ontario Green Party, Canadian Green Building Council & dozens of NGO's, schools, universities and community groups. Melissa was Chair of NEST, an ENGO who united 70+ green groups in the Niagara green sector for improved organizational resilience and several other new environmental non-profits that began there in the 2010's. In 2012, she delivered a TEDx titled “We Are They” about collective consumption. That year she was invited to train with Mr Al Gore’s Climate Reality Project.Whilst moving back to Australia, she completed a 300+ hours yoga teaching training. This lead to her preference for “caring for the planet from within”. Melissa has taught yoga, meditation and forms of mindful reflection for her community via yoga studios and annual events such as Earth Day, Mothers Day, New Years Day, etc. She has been creating ephemeral art works as a meditation practice since 2010. In recent times Melissa has project managed a complete rebuild of a Modernist home in Adelaide - which once completed was open for 2017 & 2018 Sustainable House Day (see below).
