- Co-Curator "Michael Richards: Are You Down?" Richards’ first touring museum retrospective, exhibiting his extensive sculpture and drawing practice which incisively engaged race, diaspora, and spirituality—recognized by Frieze magazine as one of the “Top 10 Shows in the United States of 2021”- Program and coordinate public events including tours, talks, and panel discussions- Coediting a fully illustrated monograph, including a newly commissioned essay by Edwidge DanticatOf Jamaican and Costa Rican lineage, Michael Richards was born in Brooklyn in 1963, raised in Kingston, and came of age between post-independence Jamaica and post-civil rights era America. Richards used the language of metaphor to investigate racial inequity and the tension between assimilation and exclusion in his art. Flight and aviation were central themes for Richards as an exploration of freedom and escape, ascendance and descent. His artwork gestures towards both repression and reprieve from social injustices, and the simultaneous possibilities of uplift and downfall, often in the context of the historic and ongoing oppression of Black people. My interdisciplinary curatorial work engages with complex narratives and histories in museums, galleries, and public spaces; centers womxn, artists of color, and queer artists; and amplifies underrepresented voices.Curatorial highlights include initiating and curating a critically acclaimed gallery program at LMCC’s Arts Center from 2010–2017; and curating and producing the River To River Festival from 2014–2017, annually presenting more than 120 events with 100 participating artists and 35+ partners, activating 25+ public and historically significant sites throughout Lower Manhattan and Governors Island, and attracting 100K audience members.I regularly participate on juries for foundations, non-profits, and government agencies including the National Endowment for the Arts, The Jerome Foundation, Harpo, Eyebeam, and Socrates Sculpture Park. I also guest lecture in art practice and arts administration programs including Tyler School of Art and Architecture, Bard College, and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.

Led division of advisory services for living artists and artists’ estates and foundations; Advised artists, estates, and foundations through the complex process of creating a legacy plan and embarking on values-based initiatives.• Designed strategy, vision, and infrastructure for a new client-based business area, advising living artists and artists’ estates and foundations on artistic and philanthropic legacy stewardship • Established and oversaw processes for day-to-day operations, project management, income-generation, expense-management, and staffing• Oversaw thoughtful client development strategy with tailored outreach; traveled nationally and internationally to cultivate prospective clients• Led individual client engagements including developing nuanced approaches to stewarding, activating and promoting artists’ legacies, and executing plans related to legacy management• Liaised and collaborated with a wide variety stakeholders including lawyers, accountants, financial planners, insurance brokers, shippers, and studio managers• Produced content such as commissioned films and articles to support individual clients’ goals• Developed and led symposia and workshops on artists’ estates and foundations and related topics such as archives, conservation, and strategic planning

Oversaw the artistic direction, strategy, administration, budgeting, and staffing for LMCC’s artist residencies and public programs; Reported to the President and worked closely with board of directors as an integral member of a small senior leadership team responsible for institutional strategic planning, fundraising, and decision-making. • Managed a $1-million annual program budget• Led highly effective team of 25 full-time, part-time, and seasonal staff• Conceived and led program design and artistic direction of LMCC’s multi-disciplinary Arts Center at Governors Island; Curated solo and group exhibitions; Oversaw public programming, attracting 8K visitors during a 4-month season• Programmed five distinct artist residency programs, annually serving 100+ artists annually• Curated and produced the River To River Festival, an annual 11-day multi-disciplinary, site-based arts festival featuring transformative works of performing and visual art in public and historically significant sites throughout Lower Manhattan, with 35+ partners and 100 participating artists, offering more than 120 events and attracting 100K audience members• Secured multi-year, in-kind donations of temporarily vacant commercial office and retail space in Lower Manhattan valued at up to $2M• Cultivated and stewarded 25+ partnerships annually across public, private, and non-profit sectors• Played an instrumental role in fundraising, developing relationships with individual donors, private foundations, and government agencies; Collaborated on planning for the annual gala which generated $800K-$1M with 500-700 attendees• Established longstanding relationships with individuals integral to the smooth operation of LMCC’s programs and spaces including artists and real estate developers, ferry operators and security personnel, corporate administrators and civil servants• Represented LMCC locally and internationally at a wide range of external events
