Hello! I'm Melissa! My journey into interior design has been a unique, yet exciting one. I started my career path as a Mechanical Engineer in the automotive industry. I was a Safety Design & Test Engineer for about 7 years and have experience leading a team, managing many projects and timelines, using AutoCAD and 3D modeling softwares to develop drawings and space plan, manage and negotiate budget for important design changes, utilize detail orientation while planning and analyzing crash tests, and creative problem solving to ensure the best product quality for customers.Although the work I did as an engineer was important, I was missing the creativity and art that I have always known and loved. The technical and people skills I learned in my previous career directly correlate to interior design and I am excited to finally be able to blend that with my creative skills.I moved to Colorado last year from Michigan to attend Heritage School of Interior Design. Since completing the Master Certification program, I have been working part time as a design assistant and a Revit teaching assistant. My current roles include using AutoCAD to measure and create floor plans, detailed cabinetry and tile elevations, lighting and electrical plans, assist with product specification, using Sketchup to virtually design perspectives, create mood boards, and market the skills and services to bring in new clientele. I am also a Revit Teaching Assistant at Heritage School of Interior Design and it is very fulfilling to be able to help teach students the skills that I know. Now that I have some part-time experience in the industry, I am looking for a full-time position to grow my career with a fast-paced and innovative company. As a team-player and quick learner, I am looking forward to contributing my unique skillset to a team. I am very passionate about maximizing a space’s functionality and comfort, along with bringing character in through color, patterns, and texture. If you are interested in learning more about my experiences, feel free to reach out.
