Melissa is music educator with experience in general music, band, and choir. She holds degrees in Music Education and Psychology from CMU. Melissa completed her Kodaly level 1 training under Dr. Joy Nelson and Dr. Ashley Allen at CMU, Kodaly level 2 at Portland State University under Dr. Susan Brumfield, Carol J Brown, Michael Kaulkin, and Katalin Kiss and Kodaly level 3 at the University of Oklahoma with Dr. Joy Nelson, Sandy Knudson, and Dr. Casey Gerber. She is the former Past-President and President Elect the Michigan Kodaly Educators, the MMC Planning Committee representative for the Michigan Music Education Association, and the MKMEA 2021 Conference Chair. Melissa serves as the Midwest 1 Region Representative on the National Board for the Organization of American Kodaly Educators as well as on the Advocacy and Public Relations Committee. She founded three middle school ensembles in three years while teaching on a cart with no budget. She is an active music education blogger and loves snuggling her dog in her free time.
