BSL-2 laboratory that focuses on characterizing proteins and/or pathways that could be potential drug targets in the protozoan parasites Trypanosoma cruzi and Trypanosoma brucei. My work involves:-Management of the lab, including: Bio/Chemical/RAD Safety compliance, organization and maintenance of lab materials and equipment, hire/supervise/train undergraduates and technicians-Assisting with multiple research projects including: identification of acidocalcisome proteins by in-situ tagging in T. brucei, screening of drug candidates against T. cruzi, determining invasion/replication success of T. cruzi knockout cell lines and characterizing a phosphate/sodium transporter in T. brucei-Scientific techniques: Western blotting, DNA extraction, PCR, cell culture/sterile technique, immunofluorescence assay, protein expression and purification, handling mice/guinea pigs

My work in the Aquatic Biotechnology and Environmental Laboratory involved acting as an animal care techinician for a large room holding a few thousand Oryzias latipes, or medaka, fish. Additionally I participated in a project the determined the mutation rate and type of certain compounds upon the fish when added to their culture water.
