Melissa Parker-Chohany has experience as a writer and working in coordination and development for the arts, media, educational television, documentary and independent film production, editing, transcription, nonprofit organizations, and early childhood education. She most recently worked in grant writing and research for St. Francis Neighborhood Center of Baltimore, whose focus is on the alleviation of generational poverty, education and enrichment for the lives of children adversely impacted within the city. Prior to this, she served as the campaign coordinator and direct fundraising assistant to State Senator Mary Washington, PhD. In addition to freelance consulting, Melissa now works part time for an arts studio dedicated inclusivity, visibility and opportunities for disabled artists. She is active as a community leader, working as the founding director of volunteer initiatives including The Hampden Hive, a community non-binary and women’s group in Baltimore, Maryland, founded in 2018, Hampden Skill Share community resource group, and The Pandemic Postal Service, an outreach initiative formed in 2020. Her skills and services range from creative writing, grant and content writing, events, social media content, design and marketing. She aspires to develop and lead a foundation that lifts up the mental health outreach, public health, and community development through the creative arts, and work with others for impact that serves to create sustainable change, hope, civility, and equity in the city of Baltimore, the state of Maryland, and beyond.
