As a Product Development Scientist, I work in the "idea factory" of Ultradent. In this role I work with a variety of materials that are directly or indirectly used in the dental industry. Tasks include synthesizing compounds, formulating bulk materials, and developing polymers for a variety of uses. We give regular presentations of our work to the rest of the team and other stakeholders in our projects. We also support the rest of the business as needed.

As a quality control chemist at UPI I analyzed a wide variety of products, both prescription and over the counter, while maintaining good laboratory practices (GLP) and good documentation practices (GDP). A variety of wet chemistry techniques, such as titrations, standardizations, digestions, light curing techniques, durometer hardness, pH and viscosity measurements were commonly used. Instrumental analysis included HPLC, IC, GC, FTIR and UV-VIS. Success in the laboratory required the ability to work independently, effective time management skills to meet strict deadlines, and highly developed quantitative reasoning skills.

In this position I assisted in setting up the laboratory instrumentation and documentation (SOPs, methods) for the sample preparation and analytical/instrumentation laboratories at the MAP (Molybdenum Autoclave Plant) site. The laboratories, instruments and sample preparation protocols were to be used to assess the concentration of molybdenum and other metals of interest in autoclave and hydrometallurgical process samples.

As a Research Analyst I was responsible for checking the completeness and accuracy of technical (HRMS and elemental analysis) and spectral (proton and carbon NMR) data in research based manuscripts submitted for publication within the journal.

As a research and teaching assistant, I performed fragment based design of small molecule inhibitors for β-Catenin/Tcf interactions, synthesized substrates for the lumazine synthase, utilized computational (protein x-ray structure based models and docking calculations) and organic chemistry laboratory techniques (distillations, separations, extractions, chromatography). Additionally, I taught undergraduate students in both classroom and laboratory settings, graded quizzes and homework and evaluated my students progress on a weekly basis.

As a Research Assistant I developed and conducted a multistep synthetic sequence to an unnatural amino acid analog. Synthetic organic chemistry techniques (separations, extractions, dilutions etc) were used to produce novel chemical compounds. These compounds were evaluated with UV-VIS, FTIR and NMR methods. As a Teaching Assistant I taught general chemistry and inorganic chemistry to undergraduate students.
