After experiencing an extended period of being bedridden in my early 20s as a single mom, I learned firsthand the impact a home cooked meal. Upon recovery, I begin to deliver pre-packaged meals to families in need. Since then I have cooked hundreds of meals in dozens of homes for families and individuals. During the pandemic, I cooked and delivered meals to families that were sick. I have continued to provide meal planning, grocery shopping, and cooking. I have often had my clients purchase my services for another family, with a focus around families facing hardships. For those struggling with food insecurity, services are limited to ingredients needed. I provide instruction on how to utilize local deals, coupons, small businesses, farmers markets and cooking classes that teach how to create meals with minimal ingredients on hand at low costs. For each cooking job I complete for a paying client, the profit goes back into providing for a family in need.

Through the years the expectations of children entering Kindergarten has increased. Many American schools expect children to already be able to spell their name, add and subtract single numbers, read, write the full alphabet, tie their shoes and more before their first day of school. This can prove to be difficult for both the child and their guardians. I approach these demands by first determining my students strengths and weaknesses. From there we explore different learning styles as I determine which method of learning works best for your child.

RedMelD Photography offered a variety of services to businesses and individuals. Businesses were provided with photographs for their websites, flyers, brochures, and other marketing. Menus utilized photos taken of their various food and beverage offerings. Visitor Centers utilized photos of local attractions in their printed material as well as their online material. Various NC attractions used photographs taken by RedMelD Photography in a variety of ways. In addition, RedMelD Photography also gave individuals and families a memorable way to capture the important moments of their lives. Weddings, birthdays, first day of school, newborn, graduation, and other events were documented so that individuals and families could reflect on these throughout time. Announcements, invitations, and postcards were also produced and sold by RedMelD Photography. Although no longer actively pursuing photography as a career, Melissa still shoots as a hobby and provides photographs to close friends and family members upon request. She greatly enjoys photographing wildlife and you can frequently find her at the NC Zoo in Asheboro shooting the wildlife while chatting with the various zoo keepers.

Arrange transport to pick up vehicles which would then go to auction. I assisted wrecker driver in loading and restraining vehicles. As lead driver, I would then drive a vehicle to the auction site. Vehicles were obtained across the Carolinas. Trained as a backup to the office manager.

Rowan County

On a visit to a local animal shelter, Melissa and her children discovered that 22 dogs were scheduled to be euthanized. In addition to adopting two dogs and 5 cats that day, we assisted the shelter in finding foster and rescue for the 22 dogs due to be euthanized. We personally fostered four dogs at that time. The following day, 45 dogs were scheduled to be euthanized and we returned to successfully find rescue and fosters for each of them. Thus began our journey as a foster working with a reputable animal rescue located in Wisconsin. Through the use of donations and volunteers, Mama's Oasis 4 reFURgees was able to successfully save over 400 dogs scheduled for euthanization. We expanded our kennels to easily accommodate up to 20 dogs at one time. In emergency situations, we could accommodate up to 45 for short periods. Mama's Oasis 4 reFURgees passed on it's donated supplies and funding when Melissa's eldest son was diagnosed with a health condition that required her absolute attention. Although currently no longer in operation, Melissa and her family currently home four dogs and two cats that were rescued from shelters. Two of those dogs were the initial ones adopted at their first visit to the shelter. One of the dogs adopted was what media typically, and often incorrectly, labels a "pit bull". He had been used as a bait dog in dog fighting and has been fully rehabilitated. He now works with children that have special needs. Additionally, two other rescues are being trained as therapy dogs. Melissa still continues to assist others in adopting pets from high kill shelters, providing spay and neuter opportunities, and providing vaccinations.

Ensuring that families with special needs are afforded the same opportunities as other members of this home school association. Networking families together for support and guidance. Matching families with resources to assist them in day to day life.

A Special Night Out is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing families with special needs fun and exciting opportunities they otherwise would not be able to experience. Starting as a volunteer at yearly events, I moved into assisting with fundraisers and marketing, eventually ending up in role of Vice Chairman.
