Diagnosed with type 1 diabetes over 34 years ago, Melissa has risen to notoriety as a diabetes blogger, public speaker, social influencer, and online community leader. Sought after as a Key Opinion Leader due to her insight into diabetes communities (online and off), she has served on non-profit boards and numerous industry advisory and advocacy workgroups (Novo Nordisk, Sanofi, Asante, Janssen). She is known both for her high utilization of diabetes technology (and her thorough reviews of such as former Tech Editor for ASweetLife online magazine and on her own blog Sweetly Voiced), as well as for how she uses her more than a dozen years of experience (in her former career) as a voice teacher and professional singer to produce her diabetes-themed music video parody series.Through 2015, Melissa led Diabetes Hands Foundation as its Executive Director, representing the non-profit in broader patient coalitions such as the Diabetes Advocacy Alliance and the Partners in Patient Health workgroups, as well as planning and executing the Diabetes Advocates MasterLab Summit which welcomed 200 attendees and featured speakers from media, government, industry, and the patient community.Since 2016, Melissa has worked in medical device, bridging the needs of her community with the products that serve them through various roles across marketing, communications, medical affairs, and end user training. At Insulet, Melissa leads the global Instructional Design team, setting training strategy for customers (people with diabetes, their caregivers, and their providers) and leading work on product user guides.
