My role is to take forward Insurtech UK's mission to make the UK the global leader for insurance innovation. Working with the Insurtech UK Council and Secretariat, my remit is to drive the organisation forward, raise its profile and strengthen existing networks on behalf of the insurtech sector, whilst driving member opportunities and growth.

External Member of City of London Police Authority Board which oversees the Policing Plan and holds the Commissioner to account. The City of London Police is the National Lead Force for Fraud and Cyber Crime. Also elected to serve on the Strategic Planning and Performance Committee in May 2023.

Member of Next Generation Services Advisory Board, which is focused on using technology in the legal, insurance and accounting professions to develop the next generation of professional services. Part of the government-backed body, Innovate UK. Invited member of the Global Expert Mission to the US to investigate the opportunities for the UK Insurtech sector internationally in March 2023.

As CII's first Professional Standards Director, I oversaw Professional Standards, Ethics & Conduct, Member Discipline, Corporate Chartered Eligibility, CPD Audit and Risk Management, and worked closely with the Professional Standards Committee of the Board. Presenter and thought-leader on insurance standards, speaking at 50+ conferences and events as keynote speaker, panellist, chair and awards judge. Featured in Intelligent Insurer's 'Influential Women in Re/Insurance 2018'.Led review, development and implementation of sector-wide professional standards including relaunch of Corporate Chartered Status, Code of Digital Ethics and Disciplinary Rules. Appointed as adviser to high-profile Government and sector-wide programmes and committees. Highlights include 'Access to Insurance' sponsored by the DWP and the CII's Insuring Women's Futures Programme. Contributor to working groups and reports by the World Economic Forum and the Centre for Data Ethics and Innovation.Developed and lead team of subject-matter experts, providing direct line management, coaching and mentoring to support performance and career development, with several members winning CII recognition awards. Mentor in 30% Mentoring Club.

Member and Chair of Board overseeing the professional standards of the AAT, the professional body for accounting technicians. Reporting directly into its Council (the AAT's governing body). The Professional Regulation and Standards Compliance Board oversees the standards and regulations for the AAT's 130,000 professional membership as a whole. Promoted to Chair after chairing the AAT's Licensing Monitoring and Operations Panel from November 2018 - September 2021.

As member of the executive board of directors, I set strategy and delivered client engagements for the consumer group and financial consultancy. I advised financial services businesses on improving consumer focus, including dealing with consumer claims and complaints fairly and efficiently to avoid disputes escalating, and provided expert advice on live complaints, reviewed procedures and conducted training, enhancing companies' complaint handling performance and strategy. A frequent speaker at conferences and events, and invited to join judging panels for awards, I also authored a regular column in COVER magazine and articles on consumer legal and regulatory issues for a wide variety of publications and blogs. Fairer Finance is a consumer group, a ratings agency and financial consultancy: www.fairerfinance.com. It offers a range of consulting services to companies who need advice on how to improve their customer proposition. Services include rewriting terms and conditions and policy documents in plain English, and also reviewing and reworking companies' online customer journeys. Its tables rank financial services companies based on how well they treat their customers, how good they are at handling complaints and how transparent they are. These ratings are designed to help customers of insurers and banks look beyond price - and also to encourage companies to compete on service and transparency.

Joined as an insurance ombudsman and progressed to oversee ten ombudsmen with a team of >100 caseworkers. Remit expanded to management of service complaints, as well as development and delivery of continuous professional development programme.DECISION-MAKING: made final, legally binding decisions on insurance companies and intermediaries regulated by the FCA across the entire range of retail insurance products♦ Made over 1,500 decisions including many complex, high-profile, high value (>£150,000) and sensitive cases, including several lead decisions on issues including the right to bring multiple income protection complaints and the interpretation of reckless misrepresentation under the Consumer Insurance (Disclosure and Representations) Act 2012. ♦ Decisions cited by the Law Commission in its scoping paper and consultations on consumer insurance law reform. STRATEGY & LEADERSHIP: key contributor to the strategic direction of the organisation, focused on continuous improvement of industry standards. ♦ Acts as technical insurance lead across a wider team of 200, responsible for training and technical knowledge. INSURANCE SUBJECT MATTER EXPERT: recognised industry subject matter expert internally and across the wider insurance industry. ♦ An invited speaker and thought leader especially on protection insurance, and frequent contributor to industry publications, panels and conferences. ♦ Member of expert committee which instigated step-change to practice in relation to non-disclosure and misrepresentation, and subsequently non-disclosure complaints halved within 12 months.

Qualified as Solicitor in the Insurance Litigation and Regulation department, following two-year training contract; involved in litigation and arbitration, advice on regulatory issues and M&A due diligence for a client base of leading UK and international insurance firms. ♦ Seconded to key clients ACE Insurance (2000) and Aviva plc (1999) for six-month periods, which included acting for clients involved in multi-jurisdictional litigation and advice on regulatory issues and legal agreements.
