Melissa Cranenburgh is a writer, editor and broadcaster based in Melbourne, Australia. For close to a decade she has worked in senior roles at The Big Issue, most recently as acting editor. She has also edited the The Big Issue‘s annual fiction edition, co-hosts Triple R’s The Reading Room and regularly chairs events at the Melbourne Writer’s Festival. Her work has featured on Radio National’s Books and Arts Daily, Mamamia, The Big Issue, The Wheeler Centre and Better Reading.

I planned, commissioned and edited magazine content, managed staff, budgets and schedules, worked on advertising strategy and oversaw production to create this unique fortnightly publication. As well as planning and managing the implementation of digital strategies (primarily around Facebook, Twitter and Instagram), repackaging content for the blog and managing the magazine’s digital edition. Over close to a decade at The Big Issue, I edited or co-edited numerous noteworthy editions, including one of our bestselling editions Twelve Tales (2011), which sold more than 34,000 copies in a fortnight. Other notable contributions include: working with the editorial coordinator to secure in excess of $20,000 funding from the Copyright Agency for our Fiction Edition, which has been awarded annually for the past three years. Collaborating with the marketing team on local and national strategies to promote the magazine. And introducing greater inter-departmental collaboration.
