As the chief communication officer, I am a key member of the University’s leadership team and serve as the principal advisor regarding comprehensive, proactive, and mission-supporting communications, strategies, and planning, specifically those related to the internal campus community; residents of the Alliance community; and, in collaboration with the Office of University Advancement, alumni, donors, and parents. Serving as the spokesperson for the University, I have the responsibility for the institution’s crisis communication plan in addition to developing and implementing strategies related to internal communication, community relations, and strategic planning. In addition, I liaise with and provide communication support to the president, senior vice president and chief financial officer, and chief diversity officer and their reports.

In my current role, I participate in strategic planning for the University as a member of the administrative team and develop and oversee the implementation of the annual strategic marketing plan for the University. In addition, I develop target messages for various constituents, including the University’s value proposition, and lead the University’s market research and crisis communication efforts. My other responsibilities include the coordination of special events, designing of publications and writing for various purposes including internal communication efforts, major media announcements and event scripts, among others. I currently have oversight for a seven-person professional staff and the office's budget.During my tenure as the head of the University’s marketing operation, I have led the University’s effort to change from a “college” to “university” designation as well as a major market research initiative to inform a rebranding and positioning effort. This included the expansion of the annual media buy to include a wider array of traditional media channels and emerging channels including search engine optimization and digital advertising as well as the redesign of the Mount Union website. During this time, the office also transitioned to a data-driven marketing operation, using market research and metric data to inform decision-making. I also led the institution’s value proposition development effort, oversaw the transition to a more digitally-focused advertising strategy and encouraged the incorporation of content strategy into the office’s efforts.
