CARD Strategies is a consulting practice founded by Melissa Ryan. We help organizations understand the threats posed by disinformation, extremism, and online toxicity and work with you to mitigate those threats. Recent engagements include:-Creating proactive crisis communication and digital security plans for organizations vulnerable to attack from bad actors.-Building a cross-sector coalition to address the role of harmful masculinity in American society.-Organizing a coalition of environmental organizations to fight disinformation about climate change using research, corporate accountability, congressional advocacy, and collective power.-Briefing elected officials, movement leaders, and funders on what they need to know about disinformation, right-wing extremism, and online toxicity and how it affects their constituencies. -Writing reports and articles for public and internal audiences.

Served as an in-office expert on the crossroads of disinformation and technology working alongside the researchers and writers in this space in order to expand on and share expertise, identify opportunities for content or studies as well as share that expertise with stakeholders and the public.

Directed Trilogy's DC strategy team. Managed accounts for a roster of political and non-profit clients including Russ Feingold, The Malala Fund, and Make It Work Action.

Directed the Digital Department at EMILY's List running an aggressive digital acquisition and fundraising program. Oversaw all aspects of digital program including email, social media, video, and mobile. In 2013 the EMILY's List community hit 3 million members - a growth of almost 1 million since 2012.

Built and maintained relationships with the Netroots and other relevant online communities on behalf of Obama for America. Drove the campaign's message on blogs and progressive media. Organized blogger calls and gatherings. Worked with bloggers to place stories that framed Mitt Romney as a candidate and emphasized to progressives that an Obama victory was vital for the progressive movement.

Directed new media trainings including NOI's signature New Media BootCamps. Helped establish NOI's communications department and external communications strategy. Oversaw a series of constituency BootCamps for African Americans, Latinos, and labor communicators. Personally trained more than 500 political activists and staffers in the best practices for online organizing.

Directed online outreach strategy for the fight against Governor Scott Walker’s union-busting budget bill in Wisconsin. Worked with communications and digital staff from several different national and WI labor organizations. Reached out to bloggers and online activists on behalf of labor. Communicated what was happening on the ground in Madison to a worldwide audience through my personal Twitter account.

Directed the Feingold campaign's new media strategy including email, online fundraising, online advertising, text messaging, and social media. Oversaw and implemented the campaign's online fundraising strategy. Raised $5 million online, a significant portion of the campaign budget. Managed new media staff and interns and coordinated with communication, finance and field teams to utilize online tools and implement new media strategies. Managed relationships with vendors including web development, online ads, and text messaging. Reached out to bloggers and netroots activists on behalf of Senator Feingold and the campaign.

Raised more than $500,000 online for the PAC. Identified senate and house candidates with aligned values for endorsement. Reached out to bloggers and online communities on behalf of Senator Feingold. Grew the email list by one-third through online actions.

Blogged about state and local politics on CT's most trafficked political blog. Contributed original reporting, interviews, and commentary. Helped manage an active community of commenters.
