Dr. Melissa Kenzig has over 20 years of experience in the public health and higher education fields, teaching and mentoring students and staff, developing, implementing, and evaluating community-based health promotion initiatives, and conducting research.Dr. Kenzig is a recognized national leader in the health in higher education community. She has extensive experience managing and directing health promotion programs and services, collaborating with student affairs departments, and teaching. Dr. Kenzig is currently full-time faculty in the Master of Public Health program at Purdue University, an adjunct professor in public health and health sciences programs at the CIEE Global Center Paris and Old Dominion University, and serves as an external consultant for various private organizations and institutions of higher education.The primary focus in all of Dr. Kenzig’s work relates to creating and advocating for systems and environments that support the health and learning of young adults. She is a seasoned academic administrator who is adept at leading and working alongside both students and university staff to achieve common goals. Dr. Kenzig’s academic interests include public health promotion, leadership development, program development, evaluation, the connection between health and learning, developing actively socially just (anti-racist, feminist, etc.) public health organizations, and the praxis of translating public health theory into the everyday life of the general public.Dr. Kenzig attended The Ohio State University for her bachelor’s degree. She then attended the University of South Carolina for her master’s of science in public health and Columbia University for her doctorate in public health. Dr. Kenzig is a fellow of the inaugural class of the Public Health Education Leadership Institute, is certified in public health by the National Board of Public Health Examiners, and is a Certified Health Education Specialist.
