Degreed professional specializing in business ownership, project coordination, design, visual impact and relationship building.Email: melbean1974@gmail.comI'm a visual communication creator along with experience in project and business management. Public speaking comes easily for me and I excel with deadline-driven opportunities. Relationship building is a key component to my success and I enjoy managing events that help the community. I love throwing a celebration for co-workers or friends who have achieved their own success or milestones. I'm a team player, yet not afraid to use my voice to make sure everyone else also gets heard. For students or workshop attendees, I thrive to encourage them in their own adventures and cheer them in goals they achieve to reach their dreams.CORE COMPETENCIES: + Smart worker with strong ethics+ Honest+ Dependable+ Training+ Mentoring+ Organizing+ Program planning+ Precise communication+ Detail oriented+ Deadline driven+ Office management+ Grant writingACCOMPLISHMENTS:When I have applied for grants and residencies for my artwork to be created, it has built my confidence as a visual artist, but also as a business operator. I value other professional advice and opinions while still giving my unique spin on work. Receiving a grant from Kentucky Foundation for Women to create my artbook during the Pandemic was a huge step for me. I met deadlines and used the money to print the books, with almost all of them selling within a year.Having a photography business for years on the side and full time was a great accomplishment as I started taking photos with a point and shoot camera when I was in 4th grade. I maintained a love for the collected image and celebrated with many clients as I photographed their life milestones. Communication and project management was one of my top priorities to create a successful and long term business. Some of the best things that happened as a college instructor and internship coordinator was to witness the students walk out of my classroom with knowledge that propelled their professional lives. I have stayed in touch with many of my students and it is rewarding to see them continue in their fields and their growth personally. My family is my top priority, so time management and being organized are at my core. We are a fun family that love our old house built in 1905, along with our busy dog and city chickens. Contact me at melbean1974@gmail.com or 502-387-2230 for opportunities within my specialities. Thanks!

ArtistMelissa Mann Bean Artwork Jan 2019 - PresentLouisville, Kentucky, United StatesCreating mixed media pieces, I save old pieces of literature and publications from the landfills. I also love to lead female artist retreats and gather women who love to create. Inspiring young people, I published a book in 2021 called "Words of Art." It was a great accomplishment to receive a grant from The Kentucky Foundation for Women to help me get it printed. I worked on this piece for the majority of 2021 –- from the idea to sketches, storyboards, illustrations, writing, design and printing process. I love publications on paper, and this piece helps kids ages 7-12 (but anyone can use it that can read). It has terminology that art kids need to know along with journal and sketch pages. I have prompts on those pages to help them sort ideas and to see their ideas come to life on the page. I've also started teaching college students again and want to help them see their full potential.

Art Director/PhotographerPizza Today Magazine Mar 2003 - Jan 2007Being in love with pizza and food is a great match for a designer/photographer like myself! I was the art director and travelled to photograph stories about pizzeria operators and also took all the photos of stills of pizza and food. Anything for editorial, I did. It was fun and I got to travel alot, but I was overwhelmed with wanting to open my own photography business and teach.... so here I am!

Design EditorBusiness First - Louisville Ky Nov 2001 - Mar 2003When I moved to Louisville I had no job... graciously, I was hired on at Business First although I soon learned I didn't want to design for a newspaper. I'm very much more free-bird and don't like that much structure in design day in and day out. I really admire the folks at Business First and enjoy the articles and wisdom for business!

Art Director/DesignerUnion University 1999 - 2001Working in the Office of University Relations was alot of work, but it was so fun! We whipped out so many nice pieces of collateral, advertising and anything the university needed. It was great to be at my alma mater. It was hard to leave, but God had other plans for me to move to Louisville after 9/11... -
DesignerGolden Circle Graphics 1997 - 1999I worked alongside two other designers while at GCG. We had different accounts and I designed many different types of pieces including ads, brochures, brand identity pieces and catalogs. I got a taste of what it's like to have clients and how to be diligent with handling many products and projects at once.
