As the Senior Consultant of our practice, I help manage the day-to-day operations of our team of 9. In this role, I played a major role in hiring several new analysts onto the team, created or restructured many of the systems our team relies on to work as efficiently and effectively as possible, and have overseen many of the analyses that have led to large awards and settlements. Most notably, I managed the team that worked on the Bennett v. Providence case, which resulted in the largest jury award in a wage-and-hour class action in the history of the state of Washington. I have also helped to produce hundreds of mediation analysis workbooks that our clients can use real-time in their settlement negotiations.

As a Consultant, I continued to put my technical SAS and Stata skills to work. However, client management became a much larger part of my day-to-day job. I met regularly with clients to discuss how our team could assist them with an emphasis on mediation projects. I single-handedly managed and executed hundreds of mediation analyses taking each project from the initial stages of discovery through the mediation date. While growing this portion of the practice, I assisted Dr. Brian Kriegler both technically and from a managerial perspective on litigation projects for which he was the designated expert. I also had an article published Law-360 entitled "A Data Analysis Road Map For Wage-And-HourMediation."

As a Senior Analyst, my duties primarily entailed importing, cleaning, and analyzing data in a wage-and-hour context. In addition to my technical responsibilities, I worked directly with clients to ensure that they received high-quality deliverables that assisted them either in the mediation or litigation context. I started the position as a Stata-only user but quickly adapted to being able to program in SAS as well. I worked on dozens of projects during these two years. While the vast majority entailed analyzing time and pay records, several were in the context of civil rights cases.

Although I was technically staffed in the antitrust practice at NERA, I spent the my last year at NERA working on a labor case involving the misclassification of employees as independent contractors. I worked primarily in Stata to clean and analyze very large data. Some of the analyses I did were deduction analyses, overtime analyses, and difference damages analyses. The case spanned many different states and involved receiving, requesting, and understanding complex data from many different sources. My team consulted with the client to guide them through mediations with the Plaintiffs in terms of potential damages based on the claims in the specific states.

NERA’s antitrust practice provides testimony in matters such as mergers and acquisitions, antitrust litigation, and competition policy. The Los Angeles office also provides consultation and testimony on labor cases such as wrongful terminations and wage and hour cases (cases in which employees believe they have not been paid correctly for their overtime and double time hours). I worked extensively in Excel and Stata to analyze a wage and hour case as well as helped to write an expert report for a price fixing litigation.

I worked with ArcGIS to create extensive maps for a merger concerning funeral and cemetery services and used Excel and Stata to analyze data for a price-fixing class-action case. I was also very involved in writing and proofreading the class certification report for the class-action case in addition to being in charge of cleaning and analyzing multiple datasets.

I completed a formal SAS training program as an intern and received further training in Excel and STATA. I provided research support for many different cases, including hospital mergers and litigations. I also analyzed timecard data in labor cases in order to calculate damages owed to class members. My work included editing reports, entering data, analyzing data and checking work.

I called alumni, past students, and parents to ask for gifts to the college. I also managed other callers and trained new ones. I fostered people skills and became more adept at navigating uncomfortable situations.

I tutored high school seniors at a high school in Highland Park, CA. I helped students gain the skills they needed to graduate and possibly get into college. I tutored a Science class and an English class where I worked closely with students to help them stay on track.
