Melissa Shell is a Ap Physics and Chemistry Teacher at Beaverton School District. She possess expertise in thin films, materials science, semiconductors, physics, program management and 23 more skills. Colleagues describe her as "I had the pleasure of working side by side with Melissa Shell at Intel from 1994 to 1999. It was one of the most exciting and challenging projects I have ever worked on: Intel's first C4 - Direct Chip Attach program. This was an evolutionary step for Intel as they made the tecnology transition from connecting to die using bond-wires to using the Flip-Chip "Controlled Collapse Chip Connect" pioneered by IBM in the 1960's for their Mainframe Multi-Layered Ceramic Modules. At the beginning of the program there were only a few people involved, so this required taking on all functions until the program could be appropriatly staffed. Melissa was instrumental in the first phase of the program which required a technology selection for the yet undefined Probe Card, the test vehicle needed to test the Flip Chip die. Using her expert engineering background, Melissa interviewed dozens of companies who were candidates for sourcing the technology, then invited the screened candidates to participate in a Technology Demonstration debut. From the outcome of the debut, a Probe technology was selected for the Intel Test Plan Of Record (POR). In addition to her Program management skills, Working with the Intel HR dept., Melissa took a lead role in Staffing the project, where she had the team take a course in Behavioral Interviewing which helped us in finding the right people to fill various positions in engineering and management. After the program was adequately staffed, Melissa went on to be a Project Manager and technical contributor where she partnered with the vendor selected for their technology, Formfactor Inc. Melissa was a major contributor in the technical development of the technology where she worked in the lab with the development team running chemical experiments developing process control parameters. Melissa was an inspiration to the team, demonstrated exceptional leadership skills in addition to her technical contributions which resulted in multiple patents and assisted the launch of a Fortune 500 company." and "It has been my pleasure to know Melissa for eight years. I was first a colleague, working in another division, where I witnessed first-hand her brilliance, skill and character as a manager. Her hand picked team was diverse, interdisciplinary and extremely effective, solving challenging state-of-the-art problems at the interface of physics and materials science, creating EUV lithography: sources & optics, tool design, masks, photoresist, and the other elements of the technology. It was evident in our first meeting that her wealth of experience as an engineer was combined with unique managerial acumen. I found opportunities to work with her team as often as I could and I sought her out as a mentor. Then, as a new manager, I role-modeled her team development and program management strategies. When I began to create an independent research program, I solicited Melissa first as an advisor, and then as sponsor and at last as my manager. In the four years that I worked for her as a research manager, I learned from her the value of contingency planning with respect to technical milestones, budgets, collaborations and head count to meet the challenges of a changing business environment with flexibility and success. Her commitment to quality and honesty was reflected by the execution and style within her business unit. Her intellect and enthusiasm are infectious, and she is one of the few senior managers I have met that could cleanly cover for one of her senior engineers in a technical briefing to the executive level, holding forth on plasma physics and source design, or resist chemistry or mask technology. It was a real pleasure to work with Melissa and I recommend her as a consultant or colleague to anyone requiring superlative engineering skills, excellence in planning and efficiency in execution."
