My name is Melissa Stathers and I am a Teacher in School District #37. I live in Tsawwassen, BC, but was born and raised in Summerland, BC.My teachable subjects are Social Studies and English. I completed my teaching practicum at Penticton Secondary School in the spring of 2016, and taught Social Studies 10 and English 10. I was hired on to SD67 as a TTOC in August of 2016, but I started my teaching career at Princess Margaret Secondary in the fall of 2016, where I taught Law 12, Planning 10 and Social Studies 11.I continued my teaching career with two separate contracts at Summerland Secondary School, teaching English 9, English 11 and Communications 11/12. I have also spent a semester as a TTOC, gaining experience in many areas and many schools.I am currently in my second year at Delview Secondary School in North Delta, BC. Here, I have taught Social Studies 8, 9 and 11, Career Life Education 11, Food Studies 9/10 and FSL 8.I am currently the head coach of the junior girls' basketball team at Delview Secondary for the second year running.Not only do I have teaching experience, but I also have an abundance of experience working in project development and implementation, community outreach and volunteer engagement, especially in relation to students. My biggest passion is working with youth and I am excited about the opportunities that will be presented to me through my career.I am a compassionate and understanding individual. I work well in team settings, as well as individually, as I have strong inter and intrapersonal skills. I am a strong leader with confident public speaking skills and a passion for helping others. I hope to obtain a permanent, continuing contract with SD37 in the coming years, so I can continue to make a difference in students' personal and academic lives, through basketball, and as an educator.
