Radiochemistry Lab TechnicianEdf (Uk) Jul 2022 - Dec 2023West Kilbride, Scotland, United KingdomThe Environmental Safety Group monitors and executes the Environmental Safety standards and processes for the safe and reliable operation/defueling of the nuclear power plant in accordance with all regulations and licences and in compliance with the requirements of regulating bodies, company business strategies and industry best practices.Nature and Scope In this post, I was a member of the station Environmental Safety Group, working in the Radiochemistry and District Survey Labs at the Power Station.I was supporting the station regulatory and permit compliance arrangements.Principal Accountabilities As a Lab technician I carried out the following tasks:• Receipt and management of environmental and plant samples.• Carry out routine instrument calibration.• Operation of all laboratory equipment.• Enter data into the Lab QA systems and report any changes in trends.• Input results into forms/spreadsheets in preparation for validation and approval.• Maintain appropriate stock levels of chemicals, laboratory consumables and equipment.• Preparation and use of chemical standards.• Provide ad-hoc technical support to Hunterston Environmental Safety Group (ESG).• Host visitors and deliveries as required.• Other general lab/admin duties as required.Samples analysed in the radiochemistry lab include reactor gases, pond samples (pond filter inlet, pond filter outlet, ion-exchange, supernatant water and inter-cooler), Final Delay Tanks, Contaminated Vents, Pressure Vessel & Auxiliary Cooling Water, gas activity charcoals, boreholes, joint monitors, internal active drains, external active drains, Personal Contamination Events (P.C.E.s), oils, suspected rainwater and miscellaneous samples. Samples analysed in the district survey lab include tacky-shades, milk, sediment, seaweed, herbage, fish, crops, cesspit, sewage pit, storm water pumphouse, 39” outfall and the sewage plant. I was also a fire warden for the district survey lab. -
