Working as a CYC Placement Student in the Substance Use Day Treatment Program, a program in the Teen Clinic as part of SickKids Hospital's Adolescent Health unit. I am currently working in the Substance Use Day Treatment Program as a CYC Placement Student. Here, I’ve worked on a staffed team of medical professionals, social workers, child and youth counselors/workers, and TDSB teachers to support youth aged 13-18 in reaching both academic success and receiving treatment for substance use challenges. Responsibilities include 1-on-1 check-in conversations, developing and facilitating therapeutic, skill-based, and psychoeducation group sessions, assisting in DBT (dialectical behaviour therapy) group sessions, goal-setting sessions, daily charting duties, and more.

With Meadow Green Academy, I began by working alongside students in grades 4-8 to support their learning goals and social needs. I became part of the community and stayed for my second placement, allowing me to finish off the academic year with these students and then jump into the school’s own Summer program. A mixture of summer school and summer camp, I aided students in extra learning and preparation for their next academic year. I also worked with a team to create fun activities in the afternoon, supervise field trips, and care for students between pre-school ages up to grade 5, on a fluctuating weekly schedule.
