Animal welfare group dedicated to reducing crowding in the city’s shelter (ACPS) by promoting community volunteers, fosters and adopters. Participating in community, foster, and adopter education to help reduce recidivism and increase adoptions. Assisting with marketing efforts including website updates, blogs, educational information for the public and for fosters and adopters. Providing staff training to improve soft skills, and delivery of information to shelter visitors. Compile a resource library for staff, volunteers and visitors. Committed to holding the shelter accountable for best practices of animal care. Working to develop a citizen’s review board with the City of Jacksonville and Dept. of Neighborhoods to improve the accountability, transparency, and clear policies and procedures established at ACPS. Accordingly, seeking clear staff job descriptions and volunteer descriptions to maintain best care of the animals and smooth operations. Provide management coaching. Develop alternative in-kind resources for donations to ACPS including via FOJA. Leverage community resources for media and social media exposure, and for adoptable dogs to attend community events for more exposure. Engage popular sports figures, large companies, DCPS, local colleges, and philanthropists in supporting ACPS via FOJA events, in-kind donations, involving students (community service) and workers w/ volunteer PTO as volunteers. Presenting The Neighborhoods Dept. and shelter Chief with suggestions on temporary measures to moderate shelter conditions to reduce noise and stress. Approaching city council committee w/ immediate discretionary budget needs to hire more staff for kennels and direct care of dogs. Long-term planning, design, funding, and building of a new shelter large enough for our growing city and projected growth. Divise long-range plans to maintain “no-kill” (for space) status. Determine matrix for future hiring of ACO’s and kennel staff, and more.
