About Meloney Duke
Growing up in a small town in Meigs County, OH, it was always hard to find good-paying jobs. My parents would travel great distances to get jobs that would pay just enough to support our family. They weren't always the best of jobs either. My parents would always work overtime and their wages barely supported our family. In addition to working these jobs, my parents helped pastor and lead a local church. When they weren't working, they were ministering in some capacity or taking care of church business. It did not seem fair that my parents, who had such a big heart for helping others and an excellent work ethic, struggled financially and could not seem to get ahead.Seeing my parents live this way for years motivated me to strive towards becoming financially free and learning the ins and outs of business. However, I did not want to go for a "normal" business degree. I wanted to be set apart from the crowd and specialize in a specific area of business. In addition, I made the decision not to go into debt to obtain a college degree. Entrepreneur and motivational speaker, Dave Ramsey, influenced me to make that decision.Just like my parents, I continue to claim to be a Christian. Therefore, while I was in high school, I not only researched different colleges and types of business degrees, but I prayed about which direction I needed to go and the major that best suited me. Halfway through my senior year of high school, I felt at peace with this decision: becoming a Management Marketing major at West Virginia University at Parkersburg.For the first 3 years of my collegiate career, I worked for the university's Counseling and Disabilities Center as a Student Administrative Assistant. During my senior year, I gladly accepted the opportunity to work for the university's Marketing & Communications Department as a Student Graphic Designer.Shortly after graduating with my bachelor's degree, I used the knowledge and skills that I gained in college toward establishing the YMCA of Parkersburg's first-ever Marketing & Communication Department. For 2 years, I helped the Y regain their positive footprint in the community, promote it's community outreach programs during the COVID-19 pandemic, and led a Marketing Team of 3 to create compelling and quality content that reached the community.As of now, I live in Gulfport, MS to gain a fresh start in life while helping pastor friends of mine with administrative tasks as well as marketing their ministries and churches.
