He has held Senior Teaching positions in Ireland and Tasmania. Until recently he was Principal of Montagu Bay Primary School in Tasmania. He has worked in Brunei, Nepal, India, Thailand, USA, as well as Australia.Melvin was Project Leader for the development of the National Statement and Curriculum Profile in Technology Education for the Commonwealth Government of Australia. He has played a key role in numerous curriculum projects in primary and secondary education, science and technology, and personal development at state and local levels. As well he played a key role in the development and implementation of ICT for learning in Tasmanian schools. He was a founding member of Project Hahn Inc. which has provided challenge and adventure programs for young people and served as a member of the Port Arthur Recovery Committee.Melvin has written numerous educational resources including the full-length resource books - A Practical Guide to Technology – from pigs to optical fibres, and Thinking for Understanding. Moriarty’s Super Gene was his first venture into the field of fiction. Moriarty’s Flight of Fancy was a sequel which has now been transformed into Moriarty's Passage.Melvin is a molecular biologist who has carried out research into the hospital pathogen Staphylococcus aureus.
