For as long as I can remember, I’ve been obsessed with two things: Reading, and finding patterns in what I’ve read. I used to think that this meant I was destined for a career in an ivory tower somewhere. And then I discovered brand strategy and realized that I enjoy reading businesses and recognizing patterns just as much (if not more). Intergenerational family businesses are even more interesting because of the constant tension between the need to preserve a rich legacy and remain relevant in a rapidly changing marketplace.
