I’m a systems-level thinker, equally happy desk-checking the expected blocking characteristics for an EVPN-enabled layer-3 leaf and spine fabric, translating business level requirements to technology strategy imperatives, or conducting a TCO analysis of cloud-native, VNF, and appliance-based flavors of various network services.I put the "E" in "SME" for the networking space, but I'm also extremely well-rounded outside of networking. I spent a year early in my career as a production-side Oracle DBA, internalizing a *lot* of relational database theory. I never let the programming courses from my college years get rusty, writing/maintaining network automation related code in various contexts for the past 15 years (Python is my home-base for the past several years.) I'm also strong in compute and storage architecture in both the data-center and public-cloud context, and I'm never ever sick at sea.I'm a highly effective communicator, comfortable zooming in or out based to meet my audience where they're at. I have a borderline poetic gift for metaphor that I truly enjoy employing in expressing technical concepts to non-technical audiences.I'm adept at toggling between top-down and bottom-up approaches as context dictates. I have a masters' degree in Information Assurance which pairs nicely with the CISSP certification that I let expire in 2013. (Along with Cisco CCNP and CCDP certifications that expired around the same time.) I've created prescriptive network reference architectures for multiple managed IaaS/PaaS/SaaS and traditional hosting services as well as internal delivery teams in the enterprise context. I've also built the relationships and processes needed to get those architectures from mere abstractions to smoothly operating production systems.I've designed (and built/supported) data communications networks from mid-sized enterprise to global multi-tenant MSP scale. I've been a people leader, a technical leader, and a thought leader. My real passion lies in being part of a team that finds the *right* answers to tough problems.I’ve spent the past few years going deep on AWS networking services from the enterprise perspective. I'm excited to continue applying information security principles and practices to converged data communications networks and as well as newer paradigms such as software-defined networking and network disaggregation.
