About Kevin Mendes

Hi, I'm Kevin. Everyone is a beginner at something. But then we learn more. And more and more. The more we learn, the harder it becomes to remember what it was like to know nothing. Go ahead and try it. Take anything you consider yourself good at, close your eyes and now envision the very first time you tried it. Do you remember exactly what you did on that very first day and how you felt doing it? Knowing what you know now, would you tell someone else to do the exact same thing if it were their first day?There is an art to placing yourself in the shoes of someone who knows little to nothing about something. Not everyone who is knowledgeable in something can teach it to others too. It takes empathy, self-reflection, awareness and humility to give someone the kind of guidance you wish you had when you were a beginner. Whether it is music, audio & video production, rock climbing or teaching my aunt how to use video conferencing, I've always been recognized as someone who does a good job of breaking things down and explaining them to others. It brings me great joy to help others solve the problems they face in learning...well, just about anything that I know something about. Their victory as a learner is always my victory as the instructor.When I'm not being the instructor (and that includes being a dad), I'm usually at work on my passion project; simpledrummer.com. I have an obsession for learning things and this project has led me to pursue many learning endeavours. It started with a drum set, fast forward a few decades and it's now all about software.
