Meredith has worked with the Multicultural Communities Team (MCT) at the Brotherhood of St Laurence (BSL) for over three years, and is now the Senior Manager of this incredible team. As part of the Work, Economic Security & Social Inclusion (WESSI) Division, the MCT work with the local community to provide a great array of settlement support programs. She previously worked for cohealth - leading a prevention of family violence project and the Health Champions Project, a community based health promotion project as part of Healthy Together Victoria. She is a highly skilled community facilitator applying strength based approaches to build vibrant communities. From 2009 to 2012 she was Program Manager for Africare Zambia, implementing The Integrated Maternal and Child Health project which was recognised for making significant inroads into reducing maternal and newborn deaths in the project areas. The project saw substantial increases in Antenatal Care attendance and facility births through the efforts of community volunteers known as Safe Motherhood Action Groups. Meredith worked for 3.5 years as the Adviser for leading women’s NGO in Timor-Leste, the Alola Foundation, focusing on maternal and child health, advocacy and community development programs for women and children. During that time she obtained a Masters of Public Health, with UNSW.After many years working in community development and local government in Melbourne, she worked for 3 years (2003-2005) as the Ministerial Policy Adviser to the Deputy Premier of Victoria, John Thwaites during the Bracks era – integrating community development policy across Government. Author of Wealth of Experience: A Guide to Activities for Older People & Age Matters, The Art of Keeping Active and Independent, (McLennan & Petty, now Elsevier) Meredith is skilled at bringing people together to identify strengths & needs, develop & initiate community owned & run projects, in both developed & developing contexts.
