Meredith Clay is a leading expert in cannabis research, currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Plant Breeding from Texas A&M University. With a solid foundation in horticultural sciences and plant breeding, Clay’s work emphasizes cannabis cultivation, genetics, and innovation, with a focus on developing sustainable and resilient Cannabis sativa L. cultivars. As a Cannabis Consultant for Rare Earth Genomics, Clay spearheads cutting-edge research, including the development of a novel seed coat technology designed to improve germination rates in harsh soil and challenging environments. This work has the potential to expand cannabis cultivation to less hospitable regions while enhancing crop resilience. In addition to breeding three CBD-rich cultivars for indoor, greenhouse, and field production, Clay has also contributed to the creation of a mobile app for identifying cannabis trichomes. This tool optimizes breeding techniques by enabling precise trichome differentiation, improving both quality control and harvest timing.Clay has a robust record of academic and industry engagement, having presented research on cannabis trichome discovery and AI applications at the 2023 ASA/CSSA/SSSA Conference, as well as speaking at the Texas Hemp Summit and the Texas Cannabis Policy Conference. These speaking positions underscore Clay’s role as a thought leader in cannabis research, focusing on innovative cultivation technologies and policy advocacy. As the Founder and Vice President of the Cannabis Hemp Innovation League (CHIL) at Texas A&M, Clay has played a pivotal role in educating and destigmatizing cannabis, creating opportunities for students, faculty, and professionals to engage with the industry. With a strong commitment to advancing cannabis science, technology, and policy, Meredith Clay is at the forefront of reshaping cannabis cultivation for sustainable and innovative applications.
