Meredith is a clean air expert, with a background in both chemical engineering and environmental law and experience working with both stationary and mobile sources, on criteria pollution and climate change. At NRDC, Meredith works to reduce pollution from the power and industrial sectors. As a member of the Federal Legal Team, they use litigation, legislative advocacy, and administrative advocacy to develop, protect, and enforce strong federal standards under the Clean Air Act. Hankins has more than a decade of experience working with the Clean Air Act, beginning as a refinery permitting engineer at the South Coast Air Quality Management District and later as a deputy attorney general representing the State of California in challenges to Trump-era environmental rollbacks. They also previously served as a legal fellow with the Emmett Institute on Climate Change and the Environment at UCLA School of Law and as a senior attorney with NYU's Institute for Policy Integrity, where they led the Institute’s research and advocacy around federal transportation policy. Hankins obtained a B.S. in chemical engineering from the University of Southern California, earned a J.D. (Order of the Coif) from the University of California at Davis, and clerked for the Supreme Court of Hawai'i.
