My professional life has been comprised of various opportunities in which I have been fortunate enough to channel my creativity, honour my beliefs, serve others, and to have an experience. I studied at McGill University, where I achieved a Double Major in English Literature and Art History with a Minor in Film History. As such a degree implies, I was a devotee of every art form, and immersed myself in a life of activism, film clubs, filmmaking, dance performance, conceptual art, and storytelling.The bulk of my long-term experience has been in the restaurant industry, in fine-dining. Since beginning in New York at age nineteen, I have accumulated eighteen years of experience in some of Canada's finest restaurants. I have integrated the meticulous attention, personal composure, and indomitable hustle these environments command. I'm tremendously grateful for the lessons of hospitality, which I believe provide a blueprint for other forms of client care and interpersonal relations, at work and elsewhere. In 2017 I acquired a position at an art gallery. Arteria was the most active Canadian commercial gallery exhibiting internationally at art fairs, presenting as many as sixteen exhibitions each year. I gained all the skills required to lead international gallery exhibitions, and honed my identity as a professional writer, leading the gallery and its artists to accolades with my skills at grant and competition applications, notably winning the RBC Women of Influence micro-business award for the gallery's founder. I worked closely with each artist to develop their statements, and wrote procedural manuals, web content, newsletters, social media posts, and client correspondence. Following the pandemic, I resumed the work I learned at Arteria as a freelance contractor, offering my services to a dozen regular gallery clients during their art fair presentations. Working independently at art fairs enabled me to expand my services to include long-distance delivery, home installation, sales consulting, policy writing, and training. My work involves the spirit of performance, with a lot of glamorous showing up and plenty of grit behind the scenes. I have been able to find milieus which combine opportunities to write and engage with others, as well as to move my body. Above all, the work has always involved being surrounded by eclectic, brilliant, equally unconventional other people, as I hope it continues to do. I have been lucky enough to find ways of working which allowed me to arrive authentically as myself, and to welcome others in the same spirit.
