Pickleball. It has finally made it to the crazy stage. We started Pickleball Channel to help our client Hyland's reach active boomers and seniors. When we started the research for this project there was almost no one making videos about pickleball. You could count them on one hand. And no one was doing professional media coverage. So we told Hyland's that we found the white space for them to take over and Pickleball Channel was born. We put all our creative juices into this project and now we are 10 years old. There is so much more we can do but we are looking for the right partners who understand the real heart of pickleball.

The real story: This is the company I created to be a loan out on Big Apple in 2001. I wanted to be paid the full amount and pay taxes myself. After having 2 kids I knew I couldn't go back to Hollywood the same old way. I would never see my children. So we started our own thing and it has lasted 23 years now. I work with my husband, Rusty Howes, who had his own path in Hollywood (mainly with feature animation) and now we would set out together to make stuff for people. We have made digital ovens, laptops, and tires for commercials, found VO artists to make radio spots, developed digital media labs for large corporations...all to stay in the world of production but still see our kids. Having your own business is the hardest thing in the world - all the responsibility is yours and sometimes the hours are insane, but you do get to do fun stuff. Like shoot an elephant for a lice commercial. And change a tire on a Nascar track. And drive out into the desert to create some beautiful backdrops. And meet the last surviving founder of the sport of pickleball. And help people. A lot of people. You do get that with your own business. We will keep doing it and helping as many people we can along the way.

West Side Office Building

I took over for another post supervisor and this was my first time being thrown into the deep end. I had only one show under my belt in post production so now it was entirely on me. The show was just finishing shooting in Canada and everyone was moving back to LA to finish the post. FX was a brand new studio and this was their first MOW. The writer had broken up the story into 7 mini-acts so the commercial breaks now had to fit this structure. The clearances on this show were abundant and acquiring old footage is a long, tedious process but I loved it. And Elvis music costs a lot of money. The story is tragic and I have watched this movie probably 78 times as the head of post production. Great editors, dub stages, producers and even though I was really green, I got through with a lot of help. I didn't know at the time that this was to be the last Hollywood show I would be on.

Paramount Studio Lot

This was first foray into real post production. We were in the same building as Frasier that was ending its series. They were very sad. We were getting dailies from New York where the show was shooting. Eventually we got moved over to Laser Pacific where every show, it seemed, was posting with online and offline editing. I spent many a late night there delivering episodes to the network waiting for the satellite to get into position. Andy was a great Post Producer and Kathy was the best Post Supervisor and they took me along for the ride. I will tell you that Donnie Wahlberg never had to do ADR which is quite amazing and Ed O'Neill is a consummate professional. Very impressive. David Milch was a force during the show and is a great writer. Amazing time on a show. Sad to see it canceled.

Warner Bros. Studios (The Real Lot)

Went right from one pilot to the next one. This one never got to shooting because a new studio head had a grudge against the prior studio head so...he cancelled the slate of shows the first studio head put together as a little "goodbye present." The writing by Walon Green on this show was amazing (although a little gruesome) and I was a little sad that it didn't work out because of politics. Again, the hours were nice though.

Warner Bros. Studios Ranch (The One With The Friends Fountain/Couch)

This was my first real pilot. Which means the studio hasn't decided to pick it up yet. "Make one show and then we'll decide." Very hard work for writers, actors and crew making one lonely episode. I spent a lot of time in the office this time around since a pilot is more pre-production than actual shooting. Hours were nicer for this short stint. The studio passed.

Cbs Radford Studios (Home To Seinfeld)

Mark Frost was the show runner on this show and it was well ahead of its time. Dennis Farina (RIP) was the perfect, real-life retired cop to bring this role to life and a gentleman. I got to do production on this show that I did not get to do anywhere else. Direct insert shots, capture b-roll with the show photographer, select and screen directors and guide them through the process of our show. Best director I got to work with, hands down, Ted Kotcheff. We exchanged recipes through letters after the show. I also had to do PR, ADR, and HR. Crazy combos here but it is good to pitch in. Buddy Faro didn't make it because audiences weren't sure what it was. I wish that set lived on.

Fox Studios Lot And The Die Hard Building. Iykyk

I met Jim on High Incident. Best person in Hollywood IMO but known to be tough. I helped him build up Fox Studios, 20th Century Fox's new outlet, when it was just getting started. He eventually became the head of everything production-wise at Fox. So. Many. Shows. Working for a studio is completely different from working on one single show. I went to table reads where I got kicked out because I was part of the studio. It is a lot of politics, a lot of work, a lot of personal time to bring so many different kinds of entertainment to the masses. I appreciated the knowledge immensely when I made my way back to production. Valuable spot in my career.

Benson, Arizona And Surrounding Remote Regions 😎

Buffalo Soldiers was an incredible experience shooting on location. Learned how to live in a hotel room for 3 months straight, manage per diem, work grueling 6 day work weeks, and occasionally take in the beauty of the location. Danny Glover is the most impressive actor I have met. His commitment to the craft while experiencing hardship is unmet and something other worldly happens when he looks into a camera. Watching Danny laugh with Carl, Clifton, Glynn, and Michael was so tender. The entire crew was amazing. These memories are burned in permanently.

Chatsworth, Ca. Yup. Chatsworth.

This was Steven's 2nd attempt at a television series in which he was directly involved. Great first experience working on 1 hr drama show shot where we shot an episode every 8 days. 1 hr television drama is the hardest production you can do and we did it well. Inspiring moment from this show was being invited by Steven to watch his personal copy of Lawrence of Arabia on film at a Universal Studios screening room. Above the line was invited from High Incident and Jurassic Park 2 which was shooting at the time. He wanted to inspire all of us to delight in the filmmaking we were doing. Amazing. Season 2 saw more duties pile up. Besides assisting Charlie, I took on guiding visitors to the set including when PR/News showed up. I took on clearances and had to be trained by ABC about their standards and practices. I had to visit set and approve the amount of blood on the scene and if the products showing were all facing the right way or greeked properly. Monitoring the actors and making sure they scheduled their ride-alongs with Rampart and Devonshire divisions. And more. Working for Charlie Haid changed the course of my life. He and I worked so well together and his enthusiasm as an artist is compelling. So glad Ralph Winter connected the two of us.

Hollywood, Ca

My first big break into Hollywood. Started as the temp receptionist and ended up as Facilities Manager/Assistant to the President. This was a crazy time in VFX because it was just being invented. We did the restoration of Snow White, Space Jam, Water World, Lawnmower Man and so many more movies. VFX is so much work and was definitely under appreciated at the time. But it was the birth and I got to witness it firsthand. Going to the pre-Oscar presentations about VFX where everyone got to see what everyone else was doing was amazing. I was witnessing innovation and invention first hand. First DIs, first ball busting, first green screens, a lot of firsts. Great first experience and great artists to watch. Hoping Cinesite London keeps going strong.

Everyone should work at the city level and record city council meetings. It should be part of the dues. Late nights recording long, long, long city meetings and then dragging all that equipment back through the snow to the station to put giant tapes into the machines to store the footage to be aired on the local public access. Parks and Recreation (the show) is true. Highly recommend. 10/10
