I'm a research analyst/program officer for the Institute of Education Sciences (U.S. Department of Education). I focus on postsecondary and adult education research with a specific interest in ensuring equity and opportunity for adults with low foundational skills or other barriers to employment or education. Much of my work includes innovative instructional, technological, and psychosocial interventions. I also oversee postdoctoral training program grants and lead the IES research training team, which aims to support programs to build pipelines for researchers and improve research capacity.I believe that listening to the needs and goals of learners should guide research and that practice-informed and community-driven research helps individuals and communities thrive. As part of my job, I build these connections and translate research for policymakers and practitioners. Prior to this position, I trained as a cognitive psychologist and linguist and worked with English learners ranging from child refugees to graduate students. I look forward to new challenges and projects that push beyond my previous experiences and require rigor, attention to detail and standards, and a healthy dose of empathy and commitment to social justice.
