About Meredith O'Donnell

I am a marine science major from Norristown, Pennsylvania. However, there aren't many oceans in Pennsylvania so I'm currently going to school at Stockton University (New Jersey) to pursue my degree! I love being a student. Being able to learn about the ocean while being close enough to the water to have research and field experience is so unique and important to me. Field work is my favorite part of my education. My current and past classes have given me water experiences such as seining and trawling as well as plankton sampling. I also use field guides to identify and classify species caught during sampling. High school taught me basic microscope skills but its so much more interesting when you can look at something you caught through a microscope!Aside from the hands-on field experiences, writing formal research papers and giving formal presentations related to research has been a huge part of my education. These tasks have helped me grow a lot in the areas of public speaking, data analysis, and group work. Back at home, I supervise at a local ice cream shop that I've been at for almost 5 years. Working in food service has provided me with seemingly unlimited patience when it comes to working with people both in-person and thought the phone. It has also granted me with great communication and leadership skills that I carry with me for everything I do. With all of the skills and experiences I've accumulated throughout my life as a student and ocean-enthusiast, I hope to one day do botany-related research or work for a rescue/rehabilitation organization. These are two very different fields but I know that new experiences and knowledge will help me narrow down my endeavors!Common name misspellings: Maredith, Merideth, Marydith, Maradyth
