It's undeniable that employee benefits is not a sexy topic, so engaging and educating clients’ employees on their benefit plan offerings is a challenge that every employer faces. My role as the Employee Engagement and Communication Specialist was to make benefits easier to understand so employees are more sophisticated consumers and users, ultimately lowering employer costs. Tasks included creating extensive communication plans for the calendar year, creating communication plans for open enrollment, creating open enrollment themes, designing and creating custom benefit guides, educational posters, table tents, postcards, email campaigns, text message campaigns, and flyers. Employee benefit education didn’t just stop at helping employees understand benefits, it went deeper into teaching employees about carrier resources available to help make their lives easier (i.e., utilizing carrier mobile apps, how to navigate carrier sites to locate benefit details, etc.). Other responsibilities included creating total compensation statements and working with the corporate Employee Benefits Engagement Specialist.
