The HD8 Network promotes the local area within (and surrounding) the HD8 postcode, aiming to help more local people do and buy more locally.We are equidistant to Huddersfield, Wakefield and Barnsley and a beautiful, rural area of the country with a lot going on, but up until our creation, not a lot of people shouting about it ... so I saw a gap in the market and the need to promote this spectacular and busy area.We have a website featuring an Events Calendar, Member Directory, News Section, Virtual High Street and information about each of the villages. We want to be the place you turn to find out what is happening in the area.We offer a range of marketing opportunities for businesses and non profit organisations - check out our membership packages.Members are invited to use our platform to communicate their message and connect with customers; keeping us updated with their activities, promotions and events.Previously we've held monthly Networking events - although COVID killed that, and we've not yet restarted - for people to meet in person and build relationships.However the HD8 Network is not exclusively about business - we're here whether you Work, Rest or Play in the HD8 area.

Most famously, I am the host of our popular weekly, online networking meeting - check out FSB website for details and to book your place.This is a volunteer and elected position, where I work alongside staff members, and other Areas in the Yorkshire Humber and North East Region, to oversee and manage the local activity of the FSB. Engaging with members, highlighting policy issues and representing the voice of small businesses with stakeholders.There's a lot to the FSB, but essentially we're a lobbying organisation, keeping small businesses in the forefront of the mind of Government.If you're a small business, speak to me if you are experiencing issues or want to share interesting and important points about doing business in West Yorkshire. We launched the group in February 2009 to protect and preserve Clarence, Holmfield and Thornes Parks in Wakefield. Since then we have become a registered charity and achieved numerous successes.The charity holds regular public meetings with speakers from relevant authorities and has a presence at numerous events to gather attitudes, views and beliefs, as well as raise awareness. This information assists to build and inform on strategic plans, in which we aim to stimulate interest and pride in the City’s Parks.We also run litter picks, weeding Wednesday and other sessions in the park, helping to maintain standards, making it a pleasant place to be for everyone. We are responsible for the Secret Garden, reforming a corner of the parks that had become extremely overgrown, abandoned and forgotten, restoring it to tranquil safe space of beauty and contemplation, and in more recent years manage the "Game of Thornes" during the summer months; hiring out pitch and putt, tennis and other equipment for park users to enjoy the games section of the parks.Previously my role was more hands-on, where I was an executive committee member, responsible for the digital media; content and design of website and social media, and chairperson of the publicity and marketing subcommittee; reviewing and delivering promotional literature, analysing and building profiles of target market, understanding wants and needs and preferred methods of communication.Along with contributing in executive meetings, being a group facilitator at public meetings and a co-ordinator and representative at events, I have also been involved in running both photography competitions; planning, obtaining prizes, arranging winner’s images to be framed and printed as postcards, co-ordinated an exhibition event and general promotion. As well as producing the most recent Leaflet; designing, communicating, editing and dealing with printers.This is unpaid voluntary work
