In 2013, I joined forces with some of my favorite people who also parted ways with the past organization we worked at and built together. We created a new company called The Boardr specializing in top quality and authentic skateboarding events. We also have a retail store online with a physical shop in Tampa. The team that made it all happen behind the scenes all those years is back together and I couldn't be happier. Clements, Porpe, and I have been since working hard to rebuild something just as amazing and fun as we did in the past. Put the retail store online in 2001 where it quickly came to represent over 50% of the business revenue. Evolved from blogging to various come and go social networks as the early 2000's unfolded. Created the most comprehensive and up to date skateboarder and competition results database. Wrote skateboarding's first live and instant scoring software that we used in all our events as skateboarding competitions matured and changed. Had a good time doing it all. I had to move on in July 2013. I wish them the best. That was a scary jump, but it worked out nicely with what The Boardr has become today.

This company had 35 employees when I was hired as the first accountant. From there, I built the accounting department from the ground up as we quickly grew from 35 to over 300 over a couple years. I established our business processes, installed our software, customized it to run fast and efficiently with our business processes, then moved on to the Consulting Division to work on software development projects after three years. I hired my replacement, the Controller, in the Accounting Department as well as the CFO. After the company fell apart following the dot com bust, I went to work in the skateboarding industry and never looked back.

I was a Staff Accountant that worked on audits of public and private companies as well as some government audits. I worked on corporate and personal tax issues three months a year. I loved accounting in school because it was the easiest class, but once I got to work in it, I was quickly over it, hence the two short years here. To this day, I still dread doing my own taxes. My old boss at this firm is now a partner and still does all the tax work for all my companies, including The Boardr, LLC and The Boardr Headquarters. When transactions get complex, he keeps me from having to relearn some boring tax laws. There is no better tax accountant than Jimmy Hurn.
