Rick Leckey has been a CEO, business owner, author, consultant and investor for more than 40 years. For many years he was primarily in the hotel business as an owner/operator. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Hotel Administration from Washington State University,an M.B.A. in Finance and Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management from Michigan State University and is a Certified Public Accountant.He started his company in 1972 acquiring and developing hotels as an owner/operator, with acquisition emphasis on distressed properties. In the hospitality business, he has owned and operated hotels,resorts, free-standing restaurants and a night club. He was an instructor in finance and managerial accounting at Cornell University and Michigan State University. He has authored several texts developing the understanding of the economics of a business and employing quantitative tools in management. . He and his partner created Charting the Seas of Success to facilitate Strategic Planning.and Team Building processes. Charting Success also regularly presents workshops for CEO’s and business owners entitled “What You Want to Know about Financials but Are Afraid to Ask.” He is a strong advocate of the importance of effectively understanding and utilizing the quantitative information managers receive, and truly understanding the economics of their businesses. And he coaches managers on being effective communicators using clear and direct messaging. .His personal interests include automobile collection and restoration, boating, diving, tennis and travel.
