About Tyler Merrill

As a self-motivated and results-driven third-year student, I am pursuing a Biomedical Engineering degree from Purdue University. I am committed to giving myself the tools to one day become an innovator in the field. To this end, I am learning about a broad range of topics including physiology, and biology, as well as honing my traditional engineering skills such as circuit design and CAD modeling. My end goal is to equip myself with the ability to create lasting change in human health by applying what I am learning to projects and applications I am passionate about.Some of my current undergraduate work is in developing human-assistive technologies by integrating Arduino infrastructure with a 3D printed model to help those with disabilities complete everyday tasks. I also have experience in a research lab studying dysphagia through electromyogram data obtained from muscles while swallowing. These diverse experiences have allowed me to gain many skills not only in the field of engineering, but also soft skills such as technical writing and communication with a group during a long-term project.In the future, I strive to be a part of innovative research in the field of bio-MEMS devices, which integrate the engineering concepts I am learning in my classes with biological techniques to study and model disease. I am currently in search of any opportunities that allow me to learn more about bioinstrumentation and bioengineering to help me get there.
