Special Education Teacher

Current

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma And Tulsa, Ok

I am entering my third year with Epic as a special education teacher. During my first year with Epic, I worked with one of their new virtual learning centers, Heritage Academy. It is a PreK-12th grade learning center utilizing a mixture of Spanish and English curriculum. All staff members are fluent in Spanish which helps bridge the gap between parents and teachers. It allows us to communicate effectively with parents to ensure their child/ren are successful in and out of classroom. I was the only special education teacher on staff so my caseload ranged from second graders to sophomores. I worked with my caseload students in their classroom and pulled them out to provide direct instruction on a daily basis, making sure to follow their IEP. I translated for all parents to assist them in comprehending the information being added to the IEP and their child's current performance. My current position with Epic is under their Comet Academy program which is geared towards providing freshmen and Sophomores with a mixture of in-person and zoom classes utilizing their online curriculum. I am responsible for students in the OKC area and I meet with students 2-3 times a week to provide services and assist them in their academic progress as well as prepare them for post-secondary education/employment. Students are able to customize their schedule with in-person and online classes. I push-in to classrooms to assist my students while they are working and provide 1 on 1 instruction, as needed. I update all teachers with IEP changes and any important information in regards to the student's learning and positive progress.

Jul 2022 - Present

Special Education Teacher

High school special education teacher for students with disabilities enrolled in a Title 1 school. I taught freshmen and sophomores in the lab setting using vertical alignments with the other English teachers and ensuring I adapt curriculum to meet students individual needs per their IEP. I had a caseload of 25 students who I monitored and provided services to during the school year. I collaborated with all members of the team including regular ed teachers, counselors, and other academic staff members to ensure an effective IEP is in place and updated, annually. I was in constant contact with parents and sent weekly communication with expectations, plan for the week, and ideas for parents to utilize so they can assist their child/ren at home with their academics.

Jul 2021 - Jul 2022

Special Education Teacher

Moore, Oklahoma

I started my teaching career with Moore Public Schools as a summer school teachers for second and third graders before beginning my role as a freshman English lab teacher for three years. Throughout my three years with freshman, I was able to develop IEP's that aligned with students needs, wants, and goals. I overlooked an average of 25-30 students on my IEP caseload ranging from freshman to seniors and ensured that all of the team members were aware of each student's IEP and what it entailed. I collaborated with different team members and provided additional support to regular education teachers with accommodating/modifying curriculum for students with disabilities.
