Special Education Teacher
CurrentI am entering my third year with Epic as a special education teacher. During my first year with Epic, I worked with one of their new virtual learning centers, Heritage Academy. It is a PreK-12th grade learning center utilizing a mixture of Spanish and English curriculum. All staff members are fluent in Spanish which helps bridge the gap between parents and teachers. It allows us to communicate effectively with parents to ensure their child/ren are successful in and out of classroom. I was the only special education teacher on staff so my caseload ranged from second graders to sophomores. I worked with my caseload students in their classroom and pulled them out to provide direct instruction on a daily basis, making sure to follow their IEP. I translated for all parents to assist them in comprehending the information being added to the IEP and their child's current performance. My current position with Epic is under their Comet Academy program which is geared towards providing freshmen and Sophomores with a mixture of in-person and zoom classes utilizing their online curriculum. I am responsible for students in the OKC area and I meet with students 2-3 times a week to provide services and assist them in their academic progress as well as prepare them for post-secondary education/employment. Students are able to customize their schedule with in-person and online classes. I push-in to classrooms to assist my students while they are working and provide 1 on 1 instruction, as needed. I update all teachers with IEP changes and any important information in regards to the student's learning and positive progress.
