The practice note takes the reader through a range of decisions users have to make when applying FEA during the design process. The issues covered include modelling inputs, deflection, modelling decisions, ultimate limit state design, forensic engineering and a checklist for validation of results. It also has five case studies where inexpert use of FEA led to structural failures with dramatic consequences.Tim is highly involved with the civil developments providing engineering advice at planning, design and construction phases of developments.
