She loves to write essays, curate exhibitions, moderate debates and give lectures, and also fancies to pioneer new projects. As a leader, she is inspirational, strategic and adventurous, as well as results-oriented, transparent and reliable. She always chooses collaboration over competition, and enjoys working with diverse ranges of people, sharing their talents, passion and experience. Meta has her own business at the crossroads of culture, science and society. As an art historian and former director of Museum De Lakenhal in Leiden, she generates change in the museum sector, and beyond. Her focus is on contemporary art, museums, arts & science and anything interdisciplinary or out-of-the-box. As a former director of Leiden European City of Science 2022 - a pilot project of the European Commission which pioneered the Science Comes to Town call @HorizonEurope - she is engaged in exploring new models for Public Engagement with Science, aimed at connecting science with society. As one of the founders of the Ministry of the Future, she is keen on implementing innovative, bottom-up methods for future design. Within these future-oriented strategies, Meta pursues deep connections between the past and the present. Being aware of the world we share, in both her work and personal life she is committed to nature preservation and intergenerational justice. With her family, she lives on a farm near Leiden, where they keep a cattle of Lakenvelder-cows (Dutch living heritage) and maintain 36 acres of agri-ecological land.
