He graduated from University of Istanbul, English Philology in 1985. His advertorial short essays were published in Cumhuriyet newspaper and Kitaplık. His first poem was published in May, 1986 in Adam Sanat. He has published his poems in Sombahar, Yeni Biçem, Gezgin (Germany), Mısralık (Cyprus), Dirty Goat (Austin, Texas), Sözcükler, Yasakmeyve, Varlık , Ç.N. [Translator’s Note]. He was also former General Coordinator of Ç.N. and former General Secretary of ÇİD (Associcaton of Translation Companies). Two lines from his poem called the Mountain Song were carved on a stone erected in Slough by Alec Peever in cooperation with the English Poetry Society.Mete Özel’s first book Mirage Dream Mystery was published by Yasakmeyve in 2008.His poetry translations from Peter Theunynck, Carlos Felipe Moisés, Artem Harutyunyan, Rutger Kopland, Michele Zaffarano, Miron Bialoszevski, Mo Yu, Yip Fai, Yelena Şvarts, DonnieSmith, Miron Bialoszevski, Tsogdorjyn Bavuudorj, Elena Liliana Popescu etc. were published in various collections and bilingual literature magazines. He is one of the founding partners of Mirora, an internationally renown translation company.
