Maria Elena Torano is a public policy expert who served as a Member of The Advisory Commission for Public Diplomacy, a Presidential Appointment which required Senate confirmation. Maria Elena also served during President Carter as Associate Director of the US Community Services Administration and as Co-Chair of the Small Business Administration Advisory Board. for the Carter, Clinton administrations. She has dedicated the last decade of her life to serving her Miami community, while still remaining very active in international and public affairs. Maria Elena remains deeply engaged in the political process, as a fundraiser for a wide range of local, state and federal candidates to elected office. The founder of the National Hispanic Leadership Institute (the first executive leadership development institute created for Hispanic women) which trained over 500 women who now serve in key leadership positions in the public and private sector. Maria Elena also serves on multiple advisory boards, notably on the President and SIPA Dean's advisory council for Florida International University and on the Council on Foreign Relations. Maria Elena Torano still enjoys doing some freelance consulting, strategic planning, advocacy work on behalf of women issues, and non profit work. A businesswomen of principle and integrity, Maria Elena delegates with authority, demands accountability, and rewards excellence.
