Kara is working to provide free and safe access to the rivers around New York for swimming, igniting a series of policy changes that will open up access to the rivers for all New Yorkers. She is spearheading the development of + POOL, a water-filtrating, floating pool designed to filter the river in which it floats, providing safe recreation in urban waters. She founded the nonprofit, Friends of + POOL to fund + POOL's development and operations and established its growing public and educational programs. She is responsible for the organization's one million dollar operating budget and fifty million dollar capital campaign. She is expanding partnerships for + POOL with the city, social impact investors, philanthropists, community activists and all New Yorkers interested in being a part of the realization of this public, sustainable urban space. www.pluspool.com

Design for Social Innovation at SVA is the first MFA program in Social Design, with an experience-based curriculum of discipline and rigor. Kara serves as a thesis advisor to graduates pioneering solutions to the major issues of our time, working with the most enlightened and inspiring organizations.

Storefront for Art and Architecture is a nonprofit organization that advances innovation in art, architecture, and design. Kara led the organization's development and marketing initiatives, expanding its operations two-fold during her tenure. She also organized the project and led the fundraising campaign when the organization served as the representative for the United States of America at the 2014 International Architecture Biennale in Venice, Italy.

Art in General is a nonprofit arts organization that assists artists with the production and presentation of new work. Kara led the organization's fundraising efforts during two of the Director of Development's maternity leaves and established the organization's young patrons program.

The American Dance Festival is a six-week modern dance performance festival and school. For two festival seasons, Kara managed events and hospitality for visiting guests, students, patrons, VIPS, press and other festival guests. She also planned, organized and executed events with the Executive office for the festival's inaugural Screendance Conference, a four-day dance film conference bringing dance film scholars together to discuss the art form.
